A Special Space for Exploration and Imagination

Our arts-based approach helps children see the world with a sense of wonder and imagination. At The Nest, we provide a safe and nurturing space where every child can express themselves, build confidence, and develop a love of learning that will stay with them for life.

Why our curriculum is special

At The Nest, we’re about creating a community where children feel inspired, supported, and excited to learn. Our arts-based curriculum helps children develop important life skills while fostering a lifelong love of creativity. As a small, parent-run, not-for-profit preschool, we offer a unique and personal approach to early education, where your child’s individuality and imagination are celebrated every day.

About Our Weekly Curriculum

  • Learning through Hands-on Cooking

Our cooking classes give children the joy of creating delicious dishes year-round and connect to their current learning topics. From making bread and pizza to blending smoothies and elderflower cordial, children learn to recognise ingredients, understand where food comes from, and use fresh produce we've grown together. It’s a fun, hands-on way to build skills and enjoy the fruits of their labour!

  • Building Calm and Confidence Through Yoga

Our certified yoga and mindfulness instructor, Angela, integrates these practices into our curriculum to support children’s emotional and physical wellbeing. Through gentle exercises, children learn to manage anxiety, boost self-esteem, and improve focus. Yoga enhances balance, flexibility, and body awareness, while mindfulness fosters calm and concentration—skills that benefit children for life.

  • Inspiring Creativity and Imagination Through Art

Creativity is at the heart of everything we do at The Nest. Founded by artist Juliet, with a ceramics and art program by Sarah, we encourage children to explore their imagination through visual arts. Sarah is a skilled ceramist, who leads children in creating unique ceramic projects each term, learning techniques like pinch potting, coiling, and glazing. Every piece is a personal creation—nurturing self-expression, artistic skills, and interest in the arts.

  • Fun with Words and Culture Through Language

Weekly at The Nest Pre School, children dive into elementary Italian, guided by Angela who, during these sessions, speaks only in Italian. Divided into beginner and advanced groups, children learn through lively action songs, picture cards, repetition, and fun guessing games. They embrace the challenge, building language skills naturally and joyfully at an age when they’re especially open to new languages and cultures.

  • Learning and Growing in Nature through Forest School

Our Forest School program, led by qualified Early Years Practitioners trained by Leap for Forest School, brings children into nature each week. Through seasonal outdoor activities, they gain confidence, build social skills, and develop a love for the environment. From building dens to cooking over fires, children engage in hands-on learning that fosters resilience, teamwork, and a deep connection to the natural world. Your child will experience the joy of discovery and growth.

  • Express, Move and Grow Through Music and Drama

Every week our Drama & Music sessions take place in the spacious Lower Ground Hall letting children explore stories through movement, dance, and role-play. They build confidence, teamwork, and listening skills while singing, drumming, and using gym equipment for fun physical activities. It’s a lively session combining expression with motor skill development while working towards a termly performance for parents.
